Vessel with two levels! Its eating my lunch!

I am trying to represent two levels within one vessel. I tried to use two separate objects and overlap but the top bar cover the one behind it. Maybe i am missing a transparency setting? If the background of the top could be transparent this would be great. What am i missing here? Also iX Rookie and as such any comment would be helpful
