The UI is very confusing to me.

Say I have a text box. I can change the Fill and I can see my changes updating as I change them. I can apply gradients. The gradients work.

But if I go to the properties page, and bring up dynamic fill, in the first place I have no way to control the gradient. I am given a choice of a dozen "lighter" gradients and a dozen "darker" gradients, but I can't change the actual start end end gradient colors.

Not only that but no changes take effect until I simulate the program.

Also, there is no "apply" button in the properties panel. There are all sorts of properties I can change, but no way to "apply" them. The only way I can see to apply them is to close the properties box. Then if my changes weren't exactly right I have to open the properties box again.

Am I doing something wrong?

Is there any way I can assign a dynamic gradient and be able to control the start and end colors?

There is no way to control the gradient end value when you have dynamic gradients. You only have two variations, "Light" and "Dark".
Dynamic fill is dynamic, and therefore will not be displayed until run time. It is based on the value of a tag, and tags only have values when you run the application. For static properties you can change the gradient start and end colors. There are two small boxes that you can click, which allow you to change the start and end colors.
