NMEA serial input simulation

I have a GPS input running NMEA 01.80 which works fine with a GPS system connected. I have recorded data from the GPS and doctored the Speed Over Ground data so that I can simulate movement. I have tried every variant of connection but have been unable to get the HMI to recognise the data when played back using a serial adaptor running from my laptop. I have rechecked the serial port settings and the serial adaptor settings and found nothing. Any suggestions

You may need to use a null modem, or if you are using one, remove it. You can look here for information on how to debug comm issues.

Have you re-calculated the checksums after altering the sentences recorded from the GPS?
