Hi,
I'm first time user with iX developer. So I'm not familiar at all with firmware, software version and all. From passed experience, I know some HMI are very sensitive to Firmware, software version, some other are not. I'm actually on a remote site located in India, so I want to make sure when I download a program to the HMI, there's a way to go back to what it was if it cause problem. The original program of the HMI was develop in august 2012. Now I have minor modification to do on it.
1. When I download the program using a USB pen, will it automatically overwrite the actual running program?
2. I don't know with what version of iX developer the actual program was done. It was develop in 2012. Now, I'm working with version 2.1, will it cause a problem when I download my new program to the HMI? For sure, it was not originally develop with V2.1. Do I need to update the firmware first.
I don't know what HMI model is installed, I will need to check tomorrow.
3. If I successfully upload the actual program, will it cause a problem to download it again if I'm not using same software version as it was originally develop?
4. Last question : To upload a program, do I simply click on "Upload database" button? (After having configured properly the Ethernet communication with the HMI)
Thanks for the help

Upload and download program to HMI
Re: Upload and download program to HMI
JPL,
1. When I download the program using a USB pen, will it automatically overwrite the actual running program?
If there is an application already running it will ask you to confirm. I would recommend backing up the project that is running to a flash drive first.
2. I don't know with what version of iX developer the actual program was done. It was develop in 2012. Now, I'm working with version 2.1, will it cause a problem when I download my new program to the HMI? For sure, it was not originally develop with V2.1. Do I need to update the firmware first.

This should not cause any Problem. Once again, I would recommend backing up the project that is running to a flash drive first.
3. If I successfully upload the actual program, will it cause a problem to download it again if I'm not using same software version as it was originally develop?
No this should be fine. There are differences in the way the projects handle tags depending on iX version though, if you have questions about those differences please give us a call.
4. Last question : To upload a program, do I simply click on "Upload database" button? (After having configured properly the Ethernet communication with the HMI)
No this will upload the Database files (.db) not the project. The only way to upload the project is from the file menu:
and this only works if the project was told to upload the source code:
